YIN YOGA

Yin is a yoga style steeped in stillness. It provides an essential balance to the more Yang movement-based practices such as Hatha and Vinyasa. Some might describe Yin as deep stretching, but that is only a small part of this beautiful practice. This “cooler” yoga style targets what are considered to be the more Yin parts of the body, the connective tissues, allowing the Yang tissues (muscles) to relax while focussing on ligaments, fascia and joint loci such as hip, spine and shoulder. In this class you can expect:

  • Fewer poses than are practiced in other classes;
  • Poses to be held for a longer period of time (from 1 to 3 minutes, generally);
  • The majority of poses will be either seated or lying down;
  • Focussed breathing; and
  • Mindful attention to stillness.

    This class is open to anyone as there are many modifications that can be made to support any range of flexibility, age or experience level. Supporting props (blanket, pillow, bolster, blocks, eye pillows) are available at the studio, however, you are welcome to bring your own.
